welcome to today's tai chi

Tai Chi is the practice of slow deliberate movements that combine mental concentration and physical fitness.  It can be practiced by people of all ages, skill sets and physical fitness levels.  The gentle movements have low impact on the joints and are easy to learn.

Although Tai Chi is a martial art, it is mostly practiced today for the vast health benefits which come from the deep relaxation and breathing that bring internal awareness to both mind and body.  The principles of Tai Chi are based on the philosophy of Yin Yang, the Five Element Theory and Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Tai Chi is a holistic approach to wellness including mind, body, and spirit.  It offers a natural alternative treatment to many common health problems.

Fight covid-19 with Tai Chi

Boosting immunity is the only weapon to fight COVID-19.  The rapid spread of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has sparked alarm worldwide.  The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a pandemic, and countries are grappling with a rise in confirmed cases.  This is a disease that has no absolute treatment so far.  The so-called cure is just improving the patient’s immunity to resist the virus.  Immunity becomes the only weapon to fight the virus.  So what can do to improve immunity?

Doctors in China who are on the front lines of infectious disease containment and mitigation are using Traditional Chinese Medicine and tai chi to boost patients’ immunity to fight COVID-19.  A UCLA research study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics in 2007 showed that practicing tai chi might have a strong effect on the immune system because it manages to bring exercise, relaxation, and meditation together in “one behavioral intervention” the researcher said.  They theorized that tai chi enhances T cells (the white blood cells that fight infection) activity and in this way boost immunity.

Wave Hands Like Clouds Tutorial

Cloud Hands can be practiced anywhere, by anyone, even by those who don’t know tai chi.  Not only will tai chi boost one’s immune system but also will help the practitioner feel connected with people all over the world in the same situation.  Tai Chi masters believe that just practicing cloud hands is equivalent to practicing tai chi overall, because it contains all the essence of tai chi.

Why Study tai chi?

Tai Chi offers a unique form of exercise that helps to maintain and develop stability, balance and flexibility.

It is an exercise that can be beneficial for everyone.  Including those who are in top physical condition to elderly people with a reduced range of motion.

Several studies have shown that daily practice of Tai Chi can help reduce stress, anxiety and improvements in cognitive abilities.

Tai Chi is founded on a principle of softness overcoming hardness.  No matter what physical shape a person is in, their physical tension can be reduced through the intentional practice of Tai Chi, thus increasing their strength and stability.

There are 5 main styles of tai chi in the world today

The Yang Style of Tai Chi is the most popular because of its slow, gentle, even, big and large movements.
